Name: Kelly O'Connor on Aug 5, 2003State: NJCountry: USComments: Wrestlers are the hardest working Athlete's I know. I don't believe Men's or Women's Wrestling programs should be cut in any school. Discipline is lacking in students, & athlete's, but all wrestlers need it to succeed in the class, & on the mat. SAVE WRESTLING!!! ThankyouFlag

Name: Daniel Devers on Aug 5, 2003State: MNCountry: USComments: As a UMM student and Cheerleader/Stuntman, the men's and women's wrestling teams were constant sources of pride for myself and many other students. They provided success in athletics at a school were (let's be honest) such a thing was rare. As an ex-wrestler it would upset me to see UMM lose either program, knowing what a contributing factor wrestling was to the person I have become today and also how much it contributes to the mental and physical developent of countless other young men and women. It saddens me to even think that UMM is willing to lose to fine athletic programs in response to a simple budget constraint. Perhaps if the Football team has so much trouble producing wins and so much trouble (as I have heard) keeping its players on the right side of the law, they should be the target of budget related cutbacks.Flag

Name: Gayle Poepping on Aug 6, 2003State: WICountry: USComments: I do not want to see Morris let go of two of the greatest sports they have going for them. I still drive back to see all the home meets even though I live in Wisconsin, so take into consideration that there are those of us that support the teams to our fullest!Flag

Name: Jason Bryant on Aug 6, 2003State: VACountry: USComments: This is an absolute farce. UM-Morris stood alone at one time as a trend-setter for women's athletics, with wrestling being the catylyst. Now, with UM-Morris' blatant disregard for its student body, UM-Morris won't be a trend-setter, but would fall into the realm of "also-ran" out of the money, and not in the race. Wrestling at UM-Morris has and will keep providing exposure for the school and top-notch women's wrestlers... but it's up to the school's administrators to give the entire wrestling program the chance to compete (instead of soaking money for a sport that will NOT be able to compete nationally, has no conference affiliation and isn't tapping into the true resources athletically that Minnesota has been known to have). Name: Dennis Bunting on Aug 10, 2003State: FLCountry: USComments: I am familiar with the Program and former athletes at UM-Morris. I can speak of nothing but praise for what it has done for one athlete in particular. Please do not drop this program. Were there is a will there is a way. The economics of the situation go against all that I have heard thus far for the reasons being stated. Wrestling is not just a sport but and art that has been around since the days of the first olympics. It is a sport that instills competetiveness and gentlemen-like disciplines. We cant afford to lose anymore of the values that this activity teaches in our society today. Get with it you decision makers and do the research and quit thinking with your pocket books. Thank YouFlag
