Comments: There are only a few schools that offer women's wrestling. UMM being one of them. As a senior this year in high school and as a female wrestler, my search for colleges that include women's wrestling has been long and hard. Please don't take away one of the few post-high school opportunities we women have to continue our wrestling!

Comments: I'm not sure about the graduation rate debate and other matters of institutional process but here in Canada we have as many, or more Academic All Canadian in wrestling on a per capita basis than other university sports. There is no doubt that wrestling is a niche sport but when you provide a gender equitable opportunity and are in danger of having it removed to add a single gender sport it seems inconsistent with equity goals. Our best wishes to you in your campaign to keep women wrestling.

Comments: I have fives daughters, one of which has found her niche and a passion in the sport of wrestling. Because of this passion she has focused on continuing her education at the college level mainly so that she can continue to wrestle. This sport has increased her self-worth and confidence. She works harder in the academics and her grades are proof. While her older sisters slacked off in their final years of school, she continues to excel. I credit her participation in the wrestling program to this. More doors have now been opened for girls in this counhtry through this sport, please don't shut out the opportunity for these emerging athletes. And finally, with the addition of Women's wrestling in the Olympics, shouldn't UM Morris take pride in being the fore-runner of women's wrestling Please reconsider the cancellation of both the men and women's wrestling program at UM Morris. Thank-you

Comments: The comment about declining interest made me laugh. Wrestling is comes in fifth in student participation at the high school level and continues to hold strong to that position. Why don't you just admit that you have an agenda rather than try to rationalize your decision.

It clearly contributed to my success. I congratulate Coach Reese and his accompiishments at the University of Minnesota-Morris, especially the Academic All Americians. The wrestling program should be saved, Sincerly, Tom Westfall,PHd.

Comments: Wrestling is just an amazing sport. Without it, life would not be the same. It helped me build character and helped me form new bonds with my teammates. Wrestling also helped me with my academics since if I had low marks I was suspeneded off the team until the marks raise. If you take away wrestling, you take away a piece of someones life.

Comments: I'm a forth year female wrestler in Ontario, Canada. I think that wrestling is one of the hardest, yet best sport in the world. It requires body, soul, hard work, dedication, and most importantly, brains. It has helped me to think on the spot, whether I am on or off the mats. It has improved my academics because of the contiuous training that my mind endures. Wrestling is not just a physical sport. It is also mentally demanding aswell. If wrestling can help me this much, while requiring so much effort, it's worth while keeping around.

Comments: My daughter, Katrina Betts, attended UM-Morris and was on the Women's Wrestling team from 2001-2002. Coach Reese and UM Morris was a wonderful experience for her, but unfortunately she had to return home for specialized medical care as a result of an automobile accident. Some of the best female wrestlers are attending or have attended Morris and I'm sure you'll see them in future world class and olympic games. It would be a tragedy to discontinue a program that has been on the cutting edge of female wrestling while securing an education. Please reconsider other options before cutting two valuable programs.

Comments: I've been coaching for 17 yrs. All of this time I've had at minimum one girl out for the sport. I now coach a regional training site for women in Mpls. girls drive from 5 to 100 miles to practice with other females. MN/Morris is and was a good role model for the young girls who enjoy the sport and had an Ave. to wrestle in collage. I have six Jr.s in high school who will have to look to Canada to full fill there dreams of education and olympics. Please reconsider, what next. Sports are a draw and a excellent guide to life experiances that help us succeed in the real world. Larry Allen President MN/USA Wrestling President Mpls. Amateur Wrestling Club. This will be my 35th year as a head coach and have seen many former wrestlers from our program go on to wrestle in college programs. To decrease opportunities for our Minnesota athletes does not make academic sense! Bruce Bartels
