There is no doubt that wrestling is a niche sport but when you provide a gender equitable opportunity and are in danger of having it removed to add a single gender sport it seems inconsistent with equity goals.

| 75 | Daniel | Devers | MN | US | As a UMM student and Cheerleader/Stuntman, the men's and women's wrestling teams were constant sources of pride for myself and many other students. They provided success in athletics at a school were (let's be honest) such a thing was rare. As an ex-wrestler it would upset me to see UMM lose either program, knowing what a contributing factor wrestling was to the person I have become today and also how much it contributes to the mental and physical developent of countless other young men and women. It saddens me to even think that UMM is willing to lose to fine athletic programs in response to a simple budget constraint. Perhaps if the Football team has so much trouble producing wins and so much trouble (as I have heard) keeping its players on the right side of the law, they should be the target of budget related cutbacks. |
