| 3504 | Jessica | Drecktrah | WI | US | Supporting the Trio Programs is critical for enhancing our educational system in this country! The programs are beneficial to all who participate -don't cut the funding, the students need it - the US needs it. Without an educated populace, it's highly hypocritcal to claim superiority over the rest of the world and promote American values, when we can't even provide basic education for our citizens. Please keep the funding! It's important! |

saved by the Upward bound program. He went from F's to A's!! He is smart and just needed a little boost. If you cut this program you will be allowing many young talented individuals to slip through our countries educational cracks. Please support the Upward bound programs. |
| 3509 | Andrea | Gutierrez | CA | US | I am a recreation leader at the afterschool program. We are currently working with GearUp and the Step Up programs and I feel that they are very benificial to the kids who participate in those activities. And it would be an absolute shame to cut funding for such important programs. |

| 3539 | Lori | Bjelland | CA | US | it is very important that talented and ambitious children from poor families can have a chance to make it in life. They need these programs. It will save money in the long run that these kids that are so bright don't get too discouraged and fall between the cracks - which I've seen happen a lot. |
| 3540 | Stacy | Payne DeArmond | TX | US | I have talked to several professional persons who would NEVER have made it without one of these programs. One of these persons works now for the U.S. DOE and has a Ph.D. She is a TRIO grad! There are so many migrant families in Texas that need major outreach services. We cannot do it without TRIO funding. It may be the most important program in getting school-age children college ready. Or rather, to even begin to inform them and their families about college access, period.
Please do not take away this funding! Please. I am from a white, upper middle class family, and have never had to use the programs. I'm not writing because I have need, but our region of Texas has rising poverty rates EACH and EVERY year, with less and less first-generation students making it TO a higher learning institution, much less graduating. It is IMPERATIVE that we reach out to those who need us. This is a whole-family, nation-wide effort to TRULY change lives, and by extension, the lives of future generations. PLEASE KEEP THESE PROGRAMS!
Thank you very much. |
