3356 Emily BoydNEUSThese programs have helped countless underprivilaged students, myself included, in my hometown area alone. If they made such a positive impact in a small area like south dakota, i know that they also must have done the same elsewhere. it would be more than unfortunate if UB and other TRIO programs were no longer available. given the background of the majority of the senators and congressman, i am sure that many take for granted the opportunities provided to them in their upbringing. for some of us who are not as fortunate as to have some of the same opportunities that exist out there, programs like UB are the only means of gaining real hands on educational experience that encourages and facilitates the drive for a successful future that includes furthuring their education for the betterment of not only their communites, but society as a whole.

3362 DonnaRitchWIUSAs an educator in an Upward Bound program, I have had the opportunity to see how this program positively impacts the future of low income or potential first generation college students.
3363 SaraVermeulenWIUSUpward Bound has helped me a lot, from raising my grades, to making me more outgoing; I want to make this happen for more students.

3368 AngelaDreher-BaymanOKUSI Believe that the Trio Programs are an invalueable asset to the low income families in our country. They supply a great amount of support, motivation, and most of all knowledge for young people that do not have the resources of higher income families.

3370 AltheaPettigrewNYUSMy niece is in this program. She's a very talented classical pianist player. Me and my family support her education and with the Trio program can provide for a young adolescent mind and confidence to continue her aspirations and goals in life. It's really important for the bill to be sign in the next fiscal year. Thank you.

I really enjoyed upward bound and feel it should be a opportunity that everyone. If it weren't for upward bound and all their hard work I would probably not be where I am today or be the person I am today.

3387 Carlos GiovannieRamos-HernandezAKPRMy Autobiography My name is Carlos Giovannie Ramos-Hernandez. I was born in Carolina, P.R. on November 19th, 1985, but as soon as I came to the world my parents took me to their home in Canovanas. My childhood and adolescence was not stable, because my father had to move frequently, so I changed from school each year or semester. My father, sister, two brothers, and I lived in Rio Piedras ( San Juan), Canovanas, Dorado, Toa Alta and Bayamon. We are actually living in the last municipality that I mention. When I moved to Rio Piedras all things changed for me, because for the first time in my life, I spent three years in the same school ( in High School), The school's name was Ramon Vila Mayo and it is just beside at the University of Puerto Rico- Rio Piedras Campus ( where I'm studying right now). If I had changed from schools I would not have the experience of being a student in the Talent Search Program. During my three years of high school I took tutoring, which helped me a lot. When I was in Tenth Grade, I took English and math ( Algebra) tutoring. I learned so much English that I decided not to take anymore tutoring, but nevertheless in math I still needed help. Thanks to The Talent Search Program (and its staff in general) I improved my English, science ( I took chemistry's tutoring when I was in Eleventh Grade) and math skills. The program gave me a wonderful gift; they selected me for a Summer Travel exchange in Lake County ( very close to Chicago), Illinois. That experience was something unforgettable, because it was the first time I traveled to United States of America aware ( although I lived some months in New York City when I was one or two years old, but I don't remember nothing) and alone ( with people I didn't know). I had a lot of fun and I learned new things in a week and half that I spent out there. A couple of months before I came from Illinois, I had applied for a six week summer Intership Program at Buffalo State College ( Buffalo, N.Y.) that had as focus environmental studies. When I applied it was on February 2002, and On may of the same year I received a letter from the Director of the Math Science Upward Bound Program where I got be accepted for the Summer Intership. Let me tell you dear reader, that it was the best summer I ever had in my life. I learned so many different things and shared so much with people from other cultures. My life changed after Summer 2002. I joined in an advanced group where I took advanced English, Precalculus and Spanish. I had good grades and I joined to the Honor Roll as well as I did before went to the trips that I have mentioned earlier. I became , thanks to GOD , a successful and persistent guy. Thanks to all experiences and the support that I had, I obtained a good score in the " College Board" (it's like the SAT, but in Spanish) and got accepted in the University of Puerto Rico- Rio Piedras Campus. My first year in college was very excitement ,because of the use I made of the tools I brought from Talent Search, Bufalo State College, High School and my family and friends. I fulfilled my goals and also enjoyed so much. Currently, I'm sophomore and studying environmental sciences. I appreciate my High School environmental science teacher who inspires me to study that I'm studying right now and love. I expect to do another Summer Intership and go back to Buffalo State College ( to the Math Science Center) and work as a peer mentor, if GOD allows and I got accepted.

3391 Pandora BidtahNMUSI am writing to express my dismay to the proposed elimination of the TRIO grant funded Educational Talent Search program in President Bush's budget. I'm the mother of a 13 year old daughter who is currently participating in this program and I've seen great changes in her attitude and school academic performance as a result of the extra tutoring and other benefits of the program. I'm also a principal of an elementary school and have seen an impact of the success that our students achieve to the next grade level and graduate in our district. I'm so ever grateful for the opportunities that it provides my daughter with like the field trips to visit colleges, information about financial aide, extra tutoring, counseling advice, and leadership presentations by guest speakers. I respectfully request that you carefully consider what the loss of the Educational Talent Search program will mean to our nation's at-risk youth in general, and more specifically my child who is benefiting from it. Your support of favorable funding for all of the TRIO programs in the Fiscal year 2006 appropriations bill is truly needed and greatly appreciated. Thank you for your careful consideration regarding this matter.

3396 AngelCanalesNYUSThe Upward Bound program was an oportunity to guide me towards my future education. Programs like this can benifit students to strive for better educational oportunities, aside from finishing High School. I used to be a student at the Upward Bound program in Carolina, Puerto Rico and today I am a student at Sarah Lawrence College, one of the best school in the country.
3397 Earl AnnBumpusTXUSWith the current economic climate in our community and state, the funding to support these great programs for students is a must.
