PETITION

TO The Legislative Assembly of Ontario:

WHEREAS the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) plays a vital role in the protection and management of the natural resources that belong to all Ontarians;

AND WHEREAS the MNR budget for 2006-07 is 24 per cent less, in real terms, than it was in 1992-93;

AND WHEREAS vital programs relating to fish and wildlife, provincial parks, forestry, and other MNR activities continue to be cut back;

AND WHEREAS the aesthetic, cultural, economic, educational, environmental, recreational, and social value of our natural resources far exceeds the cost of protecting and managing them;

WE the undersigned petition The Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:

THAT funding of the Ministry Natural Resources be increased to a level that will enable it to STOP cutting existing programs and PROVIDE FULL FUNDING to all existing programs as well as any new programs that may be required to ensure the effective protection and management of Ontario’s natural resources.

PÉTITION

À l’Assemblée législative de l’Ontario :

ATTENDU QUE le ministère des Richesses naturelles de l’Ontario (MRN) joue un rôle déterminant dans la protection et la gestion des richesses naturelles qui appartiennent à tous les Ontariens et Ontariennes;

ET ATTENDU QUE le budget du MRN de 2006-2007 est inférieur de 24 %, en chiffres absolus, à celui de 1992-1993;

ET ATTENDU QUE des programmes essentiels ayant trait aux poissons et au reste de la faune, aux parcs provinciaux, à la foresterie et d’autres activités du MRN continuent de faire l’objet de compressions budgétaires;

ET ATTENDU QUE la valeur esthétique, culturelle, économique, éducative, environnementale, récréative et sociale de nos richesses naturelles surpasse largement les coûts de protection et de gestion desdites richesses naturelles;

2351 NormanWingroveI was Director of Finance for a Conservation Authority from 1991 to 2000. Thus, I am familiar with the funding cuts that have hampered the ability of the MNR and CA's to do their job of protecting Ontario's natural resources.

2360 PauleCholetteThe fact that the MOE and the MNR share 1% of the provincial budget is outrageous. We need environmental protection more then ever.
2361 MyronNadarajahI can't believe that Ontario has had so many cutbacks. Here I am thinking so proudly of Ontario and all its doing for the environment!!

2388 KerryStevensIn think that the programs that the MNR run for youth such as Ontario Rangers are the typesof programs that youth in Ontario need and therefore, the program should not suffer becuase of cuts.
2389 RoxannLynnIf Mr. Ramsay followed through on his promise to reinstate the spring bear hunt, there would be tens of millions more dollars infused into the economy that would pay for more COs and their ability to do their jobs. Instead Mr. Ramsay choses to take money from the COs to put in the bear wise program to control a problem that outfitters would pay the govenment to do the same job. Typical government mentality.
