PETITION

TO The Legislative Assembly of Ontario:

WHEREAS the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) plays a vital role in the protection and management of the natural resources that belong to all Ontarians;

AND WHEREAS the MNR budget for 2006-07 is 24 per cent less, in real terms, than it was in 1992-93;

AND WHEREAS vital programs relating to fish and wildlife, provincial parks, forestry, and other MNR activities continue to be cut back;

AND WHEREAS the aesthetic, cultural, economic, educational, environmental, recreational, and social value of our natural resources far exceeds the cost of protecting and managing them;

WE the undersigned petition The Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:

THAT funding of the Ministry Natural Resources be increased to a level that will enable it to STOP cutting existing programs and PROVIDE FULL FUNDING to all existing programs as well as any new programs that may be required to ensure the effective protection and management of Ontario’s natural resources.

PÉTITION

À l’Assemblée législative de l’Ontario :

ATTENDU QUE le ministère des Richesses naturelles de l’Ontario (MRN) joue un rôle déterminant dans la protection et la gestion des richesses naturelles qui appartiennent à tous les Ontariens et Ontariennes;

ET ATTENDU QUE le budget du MRN de 2006-2007 est inférieur de 24 %, en chiffres absolus, à celui de 1992-1993;

ET ATTENDU QUE des programmes essentiels ayant trait aux poissons et au reste de la faune, aux parcs provinciaux, à la foresterie et d’autres activités du MRN continuent de faire l’objet de compressions budgétaires;

ET ATTENDU QUE la valeur esthétique, culturelle, économique, éducative, environnementale, récréative et sociale de nos richesses naturelles surpasse largement les coûts de protection et de gestion desdites richesses naturelles;

2273 FrankRamsayI believe the Provincial Government could convert some of their hired Smoking Police members annual salaries (52K ea yearly) and put it where it would benefit wildlife and fisheries and the tax payers. At the pace we are going now, their will always be smokers, but no wildlife or fish for our future generations. Anglers and hunters have complied with all conservation initiatives...Now it’s the Governments fault from here out...

2280 HaroldRuckpaulId like to remind the govt of Ontario that we VOLUNTARILY allowed a sport fishing license to be instituted back in the 80s under the mistaken belief that the funding would support and expand our sport. Get with the program.
2281 JasonGaughanPlease don't let our fisheries go to waste! FUND THE MNR!
