The property at 116 Old Pittsboro Rd is one of the only green spaces left in downtown Carrboro. (Picture: Carrboro Central Park!). In addition to its ecological diversity & geographic importance to the region (research shows green spaces are absolutely crucial to breathable, livable cities), the land houses important community projects
The Carrboro Greenspace seeks to cultivate community, environment and culture, for a livable tomorrow through sustainability education and practices, cultural activities, and social space. The Carrboro Greenspace is located on 10.5 acres in a beautiful park-like commons in downtown Carrboro. The Greenspace will serve as a hub for community driven sustainability projects. The land will house a federation of projects aimed at creating sustainability and community through education, practice and public engagement.
The ReCYCLEry is a direct-service not-for-profit organization whose mission is to encourage the use of the bicycle as a mode of transportation and recreation. Hosted at the Greenspace, the ReCYCLEry holds weekly open bike workshops, and also in-depth bike repair classes. ReCYCLEry members are also responsible for building all the bikes in Chapel Hill/Carrboro\'s Blue Urban Bike program.
