As soon as I got home I "Google Earth" the area in an attempt to find out the name of that majestic rusting hulk. I was astonished to learn that it was our national flagship..the SS UNITED STATES. This ship MUST be preserved for future generations.Flag

Name: Ruthann Hilland on Jan 26, 2011Comments: Everytime we go over the Walt Whitman bridge I say "hello" to the "United States". She is not only the most beautiful and historic ocean liner but part of our history that can never be regained if we were to lose her. Even now, she is awe inspiring. This magnificent ship needs to be properly restored and displayed where everywhere can see her and walk on her decks again. The "Queen Mary" in on the West Coast- let's restore the "United States" on this coast. This ship is a work of art and it is sad that so many people do not even know she exists.Flag
