Comments: The best alternative is to change the human settlement patterns inside the Clear Edge so that there is no need to build more roads.

Comments: I just recently heard about this new phase of "progress" on the news this evening and it sickens me. I have been a resident of Prince William County for over 20 years and I am tired of the developement that is occurring in this area. Every where I look a piece of our history is being destroyed. For instance just last year the Bristoe Battlefield Developement has begun where numerous homes will be put in and will consume acres of our history. I was happy to hear that part of the battlefield was saved but it just represents the uncontrolled growth and stupidity that this county has. None of the battlefield should have been touched. Even the original owner of the land during the Civil War days said that as long as she lives no one would touch a piece of the ground. I had two ancestors who fought for the 5th Battalion Virginia Infantry in the Civil War and I care very much about the history of the Civil war and the preservation of our Battlefields for future generations. I believe that this bypass road plan cannot be tolerated and I want it stopped!!!! Maybe if the county would quit their uncontrolled growth of building houses, malls, etc. we wouldnt have a problem with traffic congestion and a need to build this road. I feel that it is the county's own fault that we have the congestion problems in this area and they will just have to live with it. But this bypass road should not happen.

Comments: I would like to sign your petition in memory of my son, who passed away in Sept. 2002; he was an avid Civil War buff and we have visited Antietan and many other battlefields. Antietam and Manassas were particular conjested and jammed with traffic; it was difficult for us to access some of the sites we wanted to visit due to the horrendous traffic, which we felt posed a risk to try to maneuver around and through it. At some sites, we gave up and just turned around, not wanting to take chances. We indeed must prevent further development of these sacred sites; they must remain for the sake of all those who sacrificed their lives on these battlefields, now and for all time.

Comments: As a former Prince William County landowner, i am apalled that PWCo is still considering development and highways that destroy the county's major tourist magnet. I have had friends from Holland, Chicago, and Florida travel to Manassas (staying in hotels and eating in restaurants there) expressly to tour the battlefield. Why would you add still more strip malls north of I-66. The area at I-66 and 234 is junked up enough. When i visited in October, i tried to get through that area as quickly as possible. When i return next month, i'll probably stay in Culpeper or Front Royal.
