Name: Joan Warner on Apr 8, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: I work for DSPS at Mesa College and see/hear firsthand what devastation the Disabled Students are experiencing already due to cuts. We have had to limit hours of service and have cut essentials out of our budget just to maintain a skeleton crew to serve the students. We have lost a staff position and a faculty member and cannot function at the level projected for next year. Please reconsider your decision to deliver such a massively unfair blow to our program and to all the community colleges in general. I am a true believer in providing access to the underprivileged. If the community colleges are forced to bear the brunt of this crisis, it will only exacerbate the already despisable image that the poor and needy have of the privileged few (the wealthy citizens and Corporate America) who have the voice of government on their side.Flag

Name: Sandra Streeter on Apr 8, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: Community Colleges are the backbone of the higher education experience. It is the one place where everyone can further their education regardless of economic status. Further cuts to this budget will dramatically hinder students in their desire to become contributing members of our community. We must be able to give our young people the best education possible. Community Colleges must also have the means to retrain those in the workforce that have lost jobs.Flag
