Name: Kathleen Moberg on Apr 7, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: Please reconsider the high budget cuts suggested for the CA community colleges. Many students will be unable to take courses, which will keep them from making a transition from high school to careers. Mnay unemployed students, who already have Bachelor's degrees are returning to community colleges for retraining, and additional coursework. The cuts will limit access, course offerings, and services to an already disadvantaged student population. The economy will continue to stagnate as students put their educations and careers on hold. Please do what's right.Flag

Name: Tom Clabough on Apr 7, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: To Whom it may concern: If the information I have received is correct, "The Governor proposed to cut CCC funding by more than 10%, while increasing funding for UC and CSU by 2.5%." I would like to voice my concern about our state government authorizing increases or pay raises at one level of school funding while at the same time cutting another. It is ludicrous to me that the institutions that need the funding the most are asked to,in effect, lay tax paying citizens off. while others in the same ranks, recieve raises How does someone explain to our children of middle class families that the richest schools receive more of what they don't need in the first place, while less fortunate families struggling to make ends meet will be denied the very education that they have been promised. I am a manager for a CCC school district, and I have to say "no" all the time to spending needs that are not concidered urgent, but seem important to the individuals requesting funds. I think our state government needs to practice it's managorial skills and make fair and just fiduciary decisions when it comes to these types of decisions. And , say no to raises where it means potential layoffs in other parts of the same industry.Flag

Name: Zeke Garcia on Apr 7, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: I am opposed to the budget cuts that are being proposed for community colleges. These cuts will impact catigorical programs that serve the most needy students in the state. The raising of student fees should be phased in and those funds should be returned back to the college. The community colleges are very offened by the increase in funds to Prison. Education should be a priority to have well educated workforce and community.Flag

We must not place the burden of bad decisions, corporate scandals, and mismagged funds on the backs of our students and our community college workers. We are not to blame and the state and federal government should own up to their mistakes and cut corporate welfare as well as crack down on corporate and public government fraud and mismanagement. Name: Valerie Bolaris on Apr 7, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: The community colleges have many minority students and students who are in the low socio-economic levels. If we do not take care of people now, welfare, unemployment and crime will rise, and the cost will be greater later. K-12 schools are working hard, but not all students are ready for the universities. The community college students are important and need the services provided on their campuses. Be fair Governor Davis. Prisons need support, but as one inmate stated, schools are more important than prisons. Education creates people who support the economy, not ones who drain it.Flag

It has taken yrs. to build our infrastructure to support students. CCC's are heavily impacted with diverse student populations. Cutting $ from CCC's will further promote the unequal playing field. These $ cuts are too drastic for CCCs.Flag

CCC's have helped so many (count me in) to be given a higher educational learning opportunity. Please remember the Key word BALANCE.Flag
