The Downtown Historic Railway (DHR) is a seasonal heritage streetcar line. Operation began in 1998 between Science World and Granville Island using two 100 year old former British Columbia Electric Railway interurbans. The eastern portion of the line from Olympic Village to Main Street was not reconstructed as part of the preparations for the 2010 Olympics. State-of-the-art European streetcars provided service to Granville Island during the Games under the name the "Olympic Line". The DHR is owned by the City of Vancouver and operated by volounteers from the Transit Museum Society. In 2012, heritage service was suspended by the City due to financial constraints (let me just point out that the city spent over $20 million taxpayer dollars to buy the tracks that the interurbans run on from CP Rail and to uprade the line for the Olympics). In early 2014 thieves stole the overhead trolly wire, rendering the line unable to operate. For the city this was the final straw; they say they will not repair the wire, and there is even talk about sending on of the two interurbans- #1207 - back to it's owner in Seattle. By doing this we would be litterally exporting our history. I want to change this, keep the line running, or at least thepossibilityof this open. And keep BC History in BC. If you beleive in this, please take the time to sign this petition. For more information on the DHR, please vist their website at; http://www.trams.bc.ca/dhr/index.html
