Dear Mr. Mayor,I'm writing from my sofa in Calgary again.I'm sending you the link to the petition I started yesterday. Yes, I'm the culprit. Please bare in mind that I am a Toronto director living in Calgary and trying to save a Vancouver institution. That is because the closure of a regional theatre, no matter where in Canada, is the loss of an anchor in the country's cultural identity.What I don't understand, sir, is why Vancouver remains the only major city in Canada which does not annually fund it's flagship theatre. We all acknowledge that the business model for the Playhouse would need restructuring.
