Riot just walked back the decision and decided to keep the prize support for our tournaments. I have been exhausted by this fight but I am glad we actually secured this win. Keep a close eye on them to make sure this stays in place.

Final supporters
Around 3 years ago, Riot Games made the decision to indefinitely sponsor players with RP-prized online tournaments. This was a wonderful opportunity for the players that allowed them to be able to foster healthy and friendly communities for people to meet and play League of Legends together. League of Legends online tournaments also offer the average player the opportunity to test their abilities against other people without having to worry about traveling.
Since making this decision, Riot has halved the RP prize pools, resulting in lower player turnout as well as fewer active members in the communities surrounding these tournaments.
Riot has now released a statement announcing the discontinuation of the RP-prized online tournament support, which you can read here. The thread has received a large amount of negative feedback consisting of hundreds of down-votes and comments showing severe disapproval by all sorts of players.
Riot Game's reasoning for this decision lacks a sufficient explanation and comes as a shock to many of the communities involved.

We hit one hundred signatures today. It is exhausting to watch these communities fade away while the company remains silent but your support proves I am not the only one who cares about what we are losing.

Yeah I understand that your industry is lacking in funding selling your very valuable e-goods such as skins and.. skins and stuff, but these tournaments are important for a lot of people. It's a means of people who don't have the ability to play in LCS to play in a competitive environment.
Absurd you guys can afford it. Some people that live in rural areas can't make it out to live events. Online tourney was best for everyone. Now it's only catering to those available or willing to make the drive. Please Rito don't fix what's not broken.
Spent the better part of two years trying to make this game more community friendly by incorporating social aspects like Facebook connection, and online/in-person tournament support. Cutting out online tournaments cuts loose my favorite part of the League community. Please reconsider.
KEEP TOURNAMENTS! As a person who lives on one small income, it's hard to get savings to spend on RP because money's so tight. This was a great way for me to work for it and be rewarded. It's a shame, really, cause this was my passion for a long time.
League Tournaments have been the only reason i stayed playing, the in game community was toxic and harsh. Finding other players in Voice Communities allowed me to enjoy the game with friends, and renew my love of the game.
rp in my country is too expensive to buy like TOO expensive and if i really want a skin i do try hard to win tournaments cause 1 won't get the skin i wanted and i might spend 2 or 3 full days playing because it takes too much time to set up teams and NOT guaranteed to win after all but i just kept playing to get the skin i want

With no incentive for many players to participate in these online leagues, you're going to ruin the hard work many of these organizers put in to attract a crowd looking to do more in this game...thusly losing hundreds if not thousands of players for lack of interest in this game.
