The two people who have made The Surrey Arms what is it today, are irreplaceable. All of The Surrey's patrons would be saddened to see their friends leave such a place.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 14, 2013Comments: As the petition says,The Surrey used to have a real reputation, the place was run-down and there were fights outside every weekend. A friend recommended we start going there shortly after James and Sam took over, saying that things had completely changed. We've been going in regularly for a while now and I can say that the place has never been so welcoming. The beer is well-kept (rare these days) and the pub is clean and properly looked after. Gone are the days of fights and damp, miserable rooms. The Surrey is run by two friendly, hardworking people who understand how to run a pub and should be supported by Dorbiere rather than throwing the baby out with the bath water.Flag

Name: Martin Coward on Jan 14, 2013Comments: this pub has blossomed into a wonderful place once the current landlords took position. I had avoided this place for many years due to a previously unsavoury reputation - however after meeting a few friends there a while ago I found the place was great. Amazing landlords, great atmosphere and I returned again and again. It dismays me to discover that plans are afoot to bring change. My question to you, is why? Why change what is working well? There is no need - and I urge you to rethink.Flag

Comments: This pub should keep on being run by James Hardy and Sam Hardy, they have changed the Surrey from a run down mess to a brilliant place to go with your friends and family. They do their jobs perfect and know how to run a good pub, they should not be getting thrown out of their place of business and home to make room for a "fresh face" which is never going to work because a lot of the customers go in there to see their good friends behind the bar and have a great time in a great pub in their company. Please reconsider they have worked so hard and put so much effort into making that pub what it is today, a successful, profitable well run establishment. It is a mistake not to let James and Sam continue running the best pub I have set foot in in a very long time please reconsider.Flag -

You can meet so many different types of people here in a safe and inviting environment, which is pretty much entirely down to the staff, who always made me feel at home. Never thought I would say it, but I'm going to miss the Surrey! Please reconsider your decision!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 15, 2013Comments: Sam and James have turned this place around, with hard work and by creating a great atmosphere for customers. I'd never stepped foot in the place before they got it (the reputation wasn't the best) and I won't again if they leave. We are in a recession yet they still attract the customers, in a town that was once renowned for having the most pubs per person resident. I will be voting with my feet and taking my custom else where. Shocking treatment of a wonderful landlord/lady.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 15, 2013Comments: The Surrey is a bit off the beaten track but enthusiastic word of mouth from a variety of regulars brought it to my attention which I'm very grateful for. A great family pub, warm atmosphere and friendly faces on both sides of the bar, it beats the rest of the Glossop pubs hands down. I'll stay loyal for as long as James and Sam are there - hopefully this will be for a long time yet, my fingers are crossed that this shocking decision is overturned. Save The Surrey.Flag
