We the undersigned hereby affirm that we wish the Marsascala council to reconsider their decision to change the St. Thomas Bay garden into a leisure park and gym. The area marked on the attached map has been a garden for over 30 years and our wish is that it remains just this, a garden! This area is enjoyed by old and young alike during the day in winter and during the summer evenings. 1. Funds of Euro260,000 have now become available to the Marsascala council to upgrade this garden. We are in absolute agreement that this entire area needs a complete overhaul keeping the existing mature trees, replacing pathways, making more interesting sitting areas etc. One only has to look at the magnificent roundabouts to take some ideas of what can be achieved with a little foresight. Unfortunately the idea for the use of these funds by the council are currently an outside amusement area with toddlers play area, outside gym and teenagers play area. We the undersigned feel that Marsascala is well equipped with most of the above at the new Marsascala recreational park and by the numerous playgrounds dotted around the area, one of which is next to the proposed project. 2. The St. Thomas Bay Garden is the only sizeable green area left in the Marsascala area. We feel that to destroy the tranquil feel of the garden would be a horrendous decision that would adversely affect not only our village residents but all the visitors both local and tourists that visit during the year. When all of Malta seems to becoming more aware of the importance of conserving our environment we feel that the Marsascala council could lead the way by making this garden an absolute treasure for many years to come.
