Please read - That plan, which is only optional at this point, “involves cutting a chunk of the Rocky steps so a roughly 24-foot-high window can be inserted halfway up. It would form the east wall of the new gallery and offer views of the skyline,”according to theInquirer. Inga Saffron expressed support for the option, saying “toying with the iconic steps is sure to be controversial, but the museum should be allowed one daring move.”

To be clear, this petition is against the final faze of the Philadelphia Art Museum steps, not the inside renovations.

These steps represent Hope to millions around the world. They bring people together with a shared reason to believe in themselves. To want to try. They come to these steps for many reasons; they just beat cancer or they just got married or divorced or felt the need to be surrounded by other like-minded individuals who want to try to achieve something more than what they were told they could. They understand life can be complex and brutal, yet the steps put things into perspective; you practice, you try, you learn, you achieve.

Locals and tourist alike flock to these steps daily to "prove themselves". The steps define who we are because they force us to challenge ourselves if we are willing to try and climb them.

In the words of Sylvester Stallone from the book, Rocky Stories, "When you train for Rocky, you basically train for yourself. Because we are underdogs. And there's very few things, iconic situations, that are accessible. You can't borrow Superman's cape. You can't swing a Jedi lightsaber. But the steps are there, accessible."

The steps are a true work of art that inspires it's visitors to achieve against the longest of odds.

Please, don't change them.
