We the students, faculty, and friends of Cal Poly Pomona, strongly oppose the decision to remove pasture areas along South Campus Drive and Kellogg Drive for construction use. This area is home to native wildlife, our Arabian Horses and Cal Poly cattle. These pastures are the shining example of Cal Poly's motto "Learn by Doing."Removal of these pastures not only destroys the beauty of the landscape and also damages the environment, but it undermines the principles the university was founded on. We urge Cal Poly Pomona to reconsider the location of this project and let the pasture to continue to be used solely for the grazing of livestock.
The Arabian horse center's pastures and land used for grazing cattle and agriculture
education are in great danger of being paved over and turned into a road and dorms. We would lose 13 acres of our 41 acres that we use for our student programs. These are the pastures that our foals grow up on and our students learn on! Our breeding program has been around for a long time and most people in the Arabian world have either known or owned a great cp horse by now and thousands of students have been through our College of Agriculture. While the school is not ending our programs, we fear for their future. How long can we
continue with our pasture lands reduced? And how much agricultural land will be saved for the future? The breeding program will for sure be hit hard, which is the basis of our foal watch program for students. Our Sunday show drill team also has their horses in these pastures and would be affected. We are trying to show the school how vital these pastures are to our programs, both equine and agricultural. Agricultural and horse land is already shrinking across the nation, please don't let this happen at a school that started dedicated to ag and these horses!
