Name: Kate Wilson on Mar 8, 2013Comments: As a member of the Ramblers Association I have walked in several other areas of the city that do not have a warden service and have been dismayed at the major littering, flytipping and vandalism on view. This is likely to be the fate of the Mersey Valley without its wardens. Please don't let one of the best things about South Manchester be destroyed by the cuts!Flag

Name: Margaret Manning on Mar 9, 2013Comments: The council could challenge the governemt to collect taxes from the rich and big business instead of cotting our vital services. Cutting such services goes against the targets to cut obesity and encourage healthy lifestyles many local people walk and do other exrecise here who would not or could not afford to go further afield We need our well maintained green lungs for our cityFlag

Name: Tom Baker on Mar 10, 2013Comments: Even the idea of cutting the MVCWS is a foolish one, let alone actually carrying on and disbanding it completely. Anyone who uses the area can see the benefit and value of the service. The whole of the Mersey Valley is a very well maintained area and without the service, one dreads to think of the consequences. There is a consultation meeting on 12 March from 4.45 at St Barnabus Church Hall on the corner of Hardy Lane and Hurstville Avenue. Please attend and make it clear to the policy makers behind this decision that this is a service that needs to kept intact.Flag

Name: Mike Bones on Mar 10, 2013Comments: I, whole heatedly support this position to 'save' the Mersey Valley Warden Service, not just in the Manchester area but also Trafford (and to a lesser extent Stockport border). Trafford Council decision to withdrawn all funding for the service has lead to Manchester Council having to make such drastic cuts, at least M. C. left a small amount to leave the MVWS still there. Please contact Trafford Council also, to voice concerns. My concern is once it is gone, it could be gone forever. This 'time of austerity' is a convenient period to let the service go, no amount of dedicated volunteers can match experienced, knowledgeable professionals. There has been over the last 10 years far too many wardens and support staff left, seconded, ground down by what has already happened. There are real environmental concerns, the 'Save Alexander Park' group and the 'Keep Trafford Green and Clean' to list two, to raise attention to their causes. Please support in any way to protect and preserve our green spaces.Flag

Name: Diana Robertson on Mar 12, 2013Comments: i feel that the specialised skills and focus of the Mersey Valley Wardens, have been an invaluable resource for the users of the valley and the waterparks. This is used by locals and those from farther afield as part of the footpath and cycling network. The activities, advice and maintenance work co-ordinated by the Wardens has been resoundingly successful, and appreciated for many years. It is very easy to dismantle this sort of service, but almost impossible to reinstate in future, when the impact of its loss begins to be felt. I feel that Manchester City Council should explore every avenue to maintain the paid service, via business sponsorship, grant aid from charities, etc before taking the final decisionFlag

Name: Martin Leyfield on Mar 21, 2013Comments: Disbanding the on site Warden service will cost more in the long run. Even if people do some Warden tasks as part of community service punishment it will still cost more to us tax payers in the long run. You risk litigation if there is an accident and your 'at your own risk etc' signs are subject to vandalism.Flag

By disbanding this service it is playing into the hands of those who will intimidate users, ride off road vehicles, set fires and fly tip.Flag
