Recent murmers from the Maui County website suggest that the county is looking for a way to rid Maui of the indigenous (feral?) chicken population. Some people just don't know a good thing when they see it, and most of these people, in my opinion, should go back to the mainland and live their mainland life there, because here on Maui, we live the island life. The modern world has made it seem like we're on the mainland, we have a newly expanded Costco full of mainland eggs, inorganic bulk eggs, after all.

But what if something happened, what if the boats stopped coming for some reason, even if it was just for a week, I feel confident that most of this island would quickly starve, and being a fan of active Darwinism, I feel we've made our bed, and well, prepare to lie down in it.

Because I own no land, I've been able to enact no solutions other than the small flock of both domesticated and "feral" chickens I keep, and when the locals are laying, I sell off all of my big beautiful brown eggs, and instead, eat only the small white eggs that the local girls lay.

Recent studies from Michigan State University are looking into the biodiversity of our local species, and the possibility of breeding them into domestic versions in order to preserve the at-risk population of humanities PRIMARY food source.

This petition is to the Maui County to seek alternative directions to take advantage of all of our local food sources, like the Maui Chicken, and instead of wiping them out, creating a plan to take advantage of the sources we have and creating far far more local sources of food (for example, the endless soon to be vacant sugar cane fields seem to have zero plan to grow any food at all) so that this island can be less dependent on imported food, but instead come up with sustainable sources of food for the coming years, including the potential famine that looms over our heads every day, held off only by our inflated dollar and massive international debt. The coming presidency seems to be another sign of the end of the world, with actual candidates that we ALL know are far closer to characters in horror movies than the statesmen that used to run things when our country was built.
