   Comments: I visited this sanctuary quite by accident in September 2012. I was on holiday with my friends and looking for the Spanish Steps. First we saw the ruins and then we saw the cats walking around. We took photos of the cats in the ruins, thinking they were quite enchanting, beautiful and unique. Then we saw the sanctuary downstairs. The people there were lovely, allowing us to shelter from the rain and to see the cats. We ended up donating about 70 euros between us to the charity. I've been to a lot of places around the world and never seen anything like this before.Whenever I tell people about my trip to Rome I tell them about the shelter, I tell them how lovely the Roman government must be to allow the charity to stay there. I believe that you should let the sanctuary stay because they are providing an important public service and attracting tourists to the area. Besides what exactly are you going to do to the ruins that can't allow the cats to stay?

    Comments: Visting Rome for the 1st time in May 2012 the cats and animal lovers at the sanctuary at Torre Argentina were one of my "must see" items in Italy. I hope the authorities can reach a compromise that allows the shelter to remain. 20 years is a good track record and the space does not encroach on the ruins themselves. If the colony is moved, surely strays will re-occupy the area and without any support (inclduing spay/neuter) there will be real problems - not these exagerated ones being presented now.
