Street performers have been belittled by a law, which has undermined their contribution to London's culture. Local legislation is making it more difficult to use public space for the arts. The government has introduced a law which criminalises street musicians and threatens them with large fines and instrument confiscations, and the sale of musical instruments to pay fines. However, the constitution of the United kingdom grants you freedom of speech, and street performers being on public property, means it is not owned by the city, it is owned by the people! Buskers dedicate their life to a talent, as much as a Student would at University, or a Doctor to Biomedicaton. We are crowd-scourcing to help raise funds and to challenge this decision in the High Court to send a strong message to local authorities and national government: Street performers should be seen and treated as a legal profession.

The Solution:

The Busker Bus has been created to keep our public spaces open to grassroots culture. We intend on raising enough petition signatures, to not only eliminate the new licence legislation, but to also ensure Street Performers receive a retirement plan, including a pension, from the government. Please sign this petition, to support London's underground art culture and take back our streets!
