The Athens Lunatic Asylum or the "the Ridges" is an historic building in southeast Ohio. It was used as a mental hospital from 1874 until 1993. Under it's operation it provided the patients with medical services in order to cure them from their various metal disorders. The patients that we're under the Asylum's care include Civil War Veterans, children, and criminals. "The Ridges" is a landmark of great historic significance for many reasons including it old age- (nearly 90 years), it's architecture, as well as the famous ghost stories that the building is home to. However, now due to some vandalism Ohio University is going to demolish this grand building. But with each signature your voice can be heard so we can stop Ohio University from destroying history from southeast Ohio. This building gives us a glimpse into our nations past and if knocked down their will always be a hole in the heart of Ohio.
