The Menifee Union School District has cancelled the 5th grade year-end celebration at the Beach Club.  The students at Callie have been going to the Beach Club for the past 19 years, since the Beach Club opened.  This year the District refuses to allow our students to leave campus citing safety concerns.   Several parents have met with Superintendent Callaway and incoming Superintendent Kennedy to try and work out an acceptable compromise but have not had any success.   We have offered the following to allay any security concerns:  the students walk along a District-approved path, designated for those walking to and from school.  Once at the Beach Club students are inside a completely fenced, gated and locked facility.  The only way into the pool area is to be “buzzed” in by the Beach Club personnel.  The PTA pays for the event including hiring additional life guards, above the normal required by Beach Club personnel.  The ratio of adults to students is higher than on any given typical school day.   Even after learning of these safe guards the District still cited “safety” as their rational for cancelling this celebration.  They were unable to tell us of any past incident or injury that caused this change and only stated “recent current events” that have directed their decision.   We do not want our kids or anyone else’s to miss out on this rite of passage that their brothers, sisters and friends have enjoyed.

There is NO cost to the school or the district for this event.  Please take two minutes of your time to electronically sign this petition.

PLEASE ALLOW ALL CALLIE KIRKPATRICK 5TH GRADE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO THE MENIFEE BEACH CLUB FOR THE END OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CELEBRATION!
