From: carol fromhart Subject: Wasted green space I live in Lakeland hills above sumner meadows golf course. I've played golf there for the past 15 years. In the winter the course is so wet and soggy, that the ball plugs when it hits the ground...In the middle of the golf course, there are large ponds that support many bird species.. The course also lies within the flood plain, and a few years ago , it was under water when they released water from the dam.. This municipal golf course is home to many local youth golf programs and clinics and school golf teams. It is ideal for seniors due to its proximity... Our own grandsons have been in a golf clinic at this hometown course for the past two summers. Now the city of Sumner wants to sell the land to a financial group that plans to build industrial warehouses.. How is this possible, and what can I do as a tree hugging citizen to stop the destruction of what little green space we have left? Do we really need more big, mostly empty, warehouses littering the Sumner valley? These huge monstrosities are filling our Kent/ Sumner/Auburn valley, destroying our farmland, our pastures, and now threatening this green space, the golf course . And what about the wetlands? How did the city decide which green space park to eliminate for their fiscal budget? Let's stop this travesty
