Motion Re: Retiree Congressional Focus Squads Whereas we retirees face serious cuts in Social Security, Medicare and Medicare benefits; and Whereas we UFT retirees, mostly former teachers have very good communication Skills; and Whereas the UFT as an organization is powerful and respected by most legislators; Resolved that the RTC/UFT urge the UFT to form Congressional Focus Squads, made up of volunteers organized by election districts, to visit elected officials to hammer home our message of NO CUTS to the above programs; further Resolved that the UFT be encouraged to train these volunteers in order for them to make the most persuasive and effective argument possible.
