Dear Oxford Village Council members:

I am writing in protest of the 76 Unit Planned Development being proposed on 98 Glaspie. I feel this development is wrong for our entire community. Please note my following concerns/requests:

  • DO NOT sell this property!
  • Rezone – Change FROM Single Family Residential (R-1/R-3) TO Recreation.
  • Get grants to help you clean up the existing structure and to develop into a true extension of Scripter Park that can be enjoyed by everyone.
  • Help the community with fundraising efforts to put amenities into the park.
  • Preserve the Village’s Character for ALL residents of Oxford Community.
  • This development will increase the problem we have with our already overcrowded schools and buses.
  • The addition of this development will add to the already overwhelming congestion on M-24.
  • This will impact all of us. It will forever change the character and charm of the Village and will add density in an area that is totally unsuited for it.
  • This is not about a need for more multi-family, we already have plenty of that coming in and plenty of areas already zoned AND master planned for high density multi-family homes. Current master plan revisions promote multi-family with much closer walking distance to the downtown.
  • This is about not giving away a piece of the community, one that was purchased with a promise to protect the waterfront and water supply and one promised to be a park for the community and one that is zoned single family housing with a future plan of recreation.
  • This is about preserving valuable community property, protecting a waterfront, ensuring the safety of the Village water supply and sticking to a promise to the people.
  • The lease agreement is incomprehensible. Why would anyone consider rezoning this community to multi-family and practically giving away community land for $4 per year?
  • We count on our community leaders to be visionaries and plan for the health, welfare and comfort of those who they represent.
  • Uphold our Master Plan, it is an agreement and vision made by the people in this community and there is absolutely no valid reason for breaking that promise.
  • You will be FOREVER changing the landscape and skyline for 32 established homes (18 on Glaspie and 14 on Thornehill Trail). By day, our eyes will be drawn to the massive structure and by night to the additional lights.
  • The 5 YEARS of proposed construction is unbelievable. The noise and potential pollution of Round Lake would be devastating to established residents AND park visitors.

Village Council, please adhere to the Planning Commission’s recommendation and turn DOWN this proposal at the March 22, 2016 Village Council meeting where I understand the decision will be made.
