Petition to the San Marino City Council

The City of San Marino is a vibrant historic community of engaged, unique stakeholders. These representatives are comprised of residents, homeowners, tax payers, business owners, employees, students, alumni, volunteers, investors, visitors, donors, patrons, clients, and guests.

We the community stakeholders of San Marino, California agree that there shall not be any apartment buildings in San Marino at the expense of our historic structures. We oppose any move to build for affordable living facilities, or any senior living facility on the historic George S. Stoneman School site or created within the existing historic buildings. Designed by Marsh, Smith & Powell, the circa 1930 (MCMXXX) public school at 1560 Pasqualito is a living example of local history with need of our protection.

There is a large inventory of non-historic vacant commercial property within the City of San Marino, and we request that the City pursues the acquisition of any one of these non-historic structures for any federal and/or state-mandated senior or affordable housing facilities, if required by law to do so.

We request that the City utilizes the historic Stoneman School structures and property for educational and or recreational purposes exclusively. We are requesting this protection as a covenant between the City and the community for a period of ten years, effective on or about May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2034.

We also request the City Council directs city staff to allocate funds for the pursuit of a historic district city-wide overlay by public ballot to protect the interests of this unique, treasured City.

NOTE: Donations requested after signing will support the iPetition platform exclusively, and WILL not go directly to this specific cause. But your signature is VITAL, and we thank you in advance.
