Name: Patricia Byrne on Jan 12, 2010Comments: removal of Renfrew Ferry will isolate many people and contribute to travel problems In addition greater use of the Clyde for transport should be encouraged as with the rivers in other major cities. Closure would be a step in the wrong direction.Flag

Name: John G. MacLennan on Jan 13, 2010Comments: The fact that it is historically one of the oldest ferry routes in Scotland and carries over 141,000 passengers per year should be enough to convince the SPT that this service should continue. I have colleagues in my workplace that would have an additional 20 to 30 minutes added onto their journey time if it were not for the ferry and I'm sure the same applies to people employed in other companies surrounding my own. SPT should remember thta their principal aim is to provide a convenient service for the population within their jurisdiction.Flag

Any other means of Public transport to get to my work are time and cost prohibative.Flag

Name: Edward Sutherland on Jan 13, 2010Comments: The Renfrew Ferry is a vital link from Renfrew/Braehead to the Yoker/Clydebank area for people without their own means of transport. These people depend on the Ferry and without it may find it difficult to travel to places like the Braehead Shopping Centre.Flag

Name: Andrew Smith on Jan 13, 2010Comments: The Renfrew ferry is a very strong link for many people, people from yoker and the west end can easily commute to braehead which still has potential if advertised in a successful way. Very many people depend on this transport link to get to work including myself, I am 17 and I live in Renfrew but work in Drumchapel, I cannot drive so I have a choice of the ferry or 2 or3 buses. The Renfrew ferry means I can get to work in 25 mins while the bus option takes 1.5 hours. if the concern about the ferry Is fuel costs surely at this time in life we can come up with a more fuel efficiant boat that doesn't result in aborting history that still has potential and is a very conveniant link?Flag

Name: Robert Mckillop on Jan 13, 2010Comments: I for one do object strongly if the ferry had to close In my younger days i used to frequently travel on the original ferry as my aunt and uncle stay down at the ferry (as they still do).,Summer days were great then watching the cars go on and off ,passengers of all ages queuing to get on and the huge chains pulling the ferry back and forward.Workers depended on the ferry to get to the other side to Yoker, you could get a Renfrew Ferry bus anywhere from Paisley town. But today we have a smaller ferry and i have used it but in a different way ,as i run a limousine company in Paisley i take tourist down to see the ferry as part of my tourist route. The ferry is part of Renfrew towns history and it would be sad to see it go .I understand everything is down to cost but in this case this is something that should be funded not only for the Renfrew people but for Renfrewshire as part of our tourist board .Keep Renfrew on the map as the ferry is part of it,Braehead is expanding and i say there is a place and purpose for this ferry .Please support to keep the ferry open.Flag

Name: Frank Bullen on Jan 13, 2010Comments: I've been using the Renfrew ferry to get to work for the last 5 and a half years. It would be extremely inconvenient for me to get to work without it. It's an essential service as there are no nearby bridges over the clyde despite there being loads of them in town. I'd oppose the ferry closing. The guys that work on the ferry are all top notch, very friendly and helpful. They are good ambassadors for SPT.Flag

Name: Jennifer Swandells on Jan 13, 2010Comments: Although I do not use the Renfrew Ferry, I am aware of the amount of people who do use it to get back and forward from work. It is an ideal mode of transport and gets you to where you are going in a quick manner. Instead of taking another resource away from the Town Centre why is there not money put in to upgrade the service,Flag

Name: Tom Leckie on Jan 13, 2010Comments: I can still hear the highland accents on this ferry reverbating along the Clyde. The hundreds of workers racing from the ramp as it touched the concrete slope. Holding onto their pieces in their hip pockets as they ran for the buses to take them to work in Renfrew and Paisley. The banter was phenomenal. I see the sadness around a dead child who had put his head between the post and the swinging gate to see the ramp being lowered.Flag

Name: Scott Manson on Jan 13, 2010Comments: I use this ferry on occasions and find it very useful, considering I don't have a car. Scrapping this ferry service is making the assumption pedestrians, non-car owners and cyclists will find an alternative way of crossing. Paisley/Renfrew is Scotland's largest urban area after Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen, and a population of this size deserves not to be stranded. I believe this is an important, vital link, and should not be removed.Flag

In the interim the ferry crossing still provides a valuable service.Flag

It is an inherent part of our town and should be preserved as such. This appears to be yet another possible reduction to the services that are paid for by the taxpayerFlag

Name: Bernard J Beagan on Jan 13, 2010Comments: To be fair I rarely use this transport link across the river however I do feel it would be a sad loss to the people of Glasgow/Renfrew. I suppose you could say we tend not to think about it, it's just there. We use it if we need to. Perhaps some thought to those who do use it on a regular basis for their veiws on the matter. Again better usage if promoted/advertised. If it's a case of costs of running - a modest increase may be the answer. Could it not be linked to the Clyde regeneration they keep talking about- more use of the river. Past history does shows us that when closure comes dereliction follows and to reopen say for summer months is a non starter. I'm sorry i can't be more positive. However what could be better than crossing the river on a boat. To the reader - just close your eyes for a moment and think about being on that boat. I bet it makes you smile does'nt it. In fact I'm going down tomorrow and show my support and use it. Wish you well in your campaign to keep the Ferry open. BernieFlag

Name: Mrs Elizabeth Mulholland on Jan 13, 2010Comments: This is an historical link between Yoker and Renfrew and should definitely be retained. The only change I would like to see is that it should be changed to the old horse ferry. (I used it weekly to visit my cousin in Govan, I stayed in Anderston, and wheeled my pram on and off). This would cut down on some vehicles having to take a longer route from one side to the other ie saving time and more importantly emissionsFlag
