Let our elected officials know that you value Irondequoit Parks and Recreation as a stand alone department with it's own leadership in a Director.

Make them aware that IPRD's commitment to impact our community through conservation, health and wellness and social equity is vital to your quality of life.

Please sign this petition and also come to Town Hall and speak Nov. 6 @ 7pm at the Public Hearing on the 2015 Budget which does not include the parks, playgrounds, senior programming and kids as a priority.

The 2015 Irondequoit Town Budget calls for the Department of Parks and Recreation to fall under the management of the Department of Public Works and the elimination of the position of Director of Parks and Recreation.

The mission of the Irondequoit Parks and Recreation Department (IPRD) is to improve the quality of life through a sustainable parks system, variety of recreational programming, special events and historical preservation.

The Department needs leadership to coordinate resources, staff and community partners to achieve it's goal of having happy, fun, healthy and active residents live in Irondequoit.

Merging the department will compromise it's mission and threatens to reduce the quality of parks, quantity and quality of programs and special events for our children, adults and seniors.

The functions (operational and planning) that would fall under the Department of Public Works that are currently managed under IPRD are:
Irondequoit Farmers Market, 4th of July festivities, Gazebo Concert Series, youth and family recreation programming, Pinegrove Senior Center, Camp Eastman and town owned playgrounds and parks, summer day camps and playground program, college interns, parades, McAvoy Park and many more.

IPRD is made up of administrators and professionals with education and experience in the profession of parks and recreation.
Team members are also members of the National Recreation and Park Association, New York State Recreation and Park Society and the Genesee Valley Recreation and Parks Society.
