A city without a library is a city without hope, integrity, or dignity. We need to make the powers that be take massive and determined action to save the one thing that helps define a city's belief in learning, education, knowledge. By signing this petition, you let the Pomona local government and everyone else know that there are no excuses for shutting down the library. They say they don't have enough money; the truth is that they don't have enough creative and bold ideas to pay for the library, and they don't have the steadfast will, determination, and desire to protect what is sacred to the people of Pomona. If we stand by and let the Pomona Public Library close, we have silently and passively allowed the elimination of one of the greatest sources of personal and collective empowerment; we have allowed the local government to shamelessly declare that while knowledge is power, the people of Pomona will be wrenched and disconnected from that power.
