It was revealed a few days ago in a Telegraph and Argus article, that Sainsbury's plan to buy the unit next to Pizza Hut on Main Street and expand into the beloved Bingley restaurant, erasing the town of one of, it not its main, eateries and social hubs, along with the jobs of around 20 of its dedicated employees who shockingly only found out the news when it was published in said article.

Serving Bingley for almost 30 years, the legacy of the store is not one to be ignored, as the store has provided a safe, caring environment for that special family meal or young social gathering, and has also provided vital employment to the towns residents, becoming some what of a statement of Bingley's social fibre.

The situation is that the lease for the property will end this coming July (2014), and so Pizza Hut management will have to assess whether or not keeping the store up and running will be of any asset to them. It is also worth noting that the Bingley store actually makes a profit when not every store does (such as Harrogate), and so there is no blatant need for its closure.

Yet the overall effect of the opening of a Sainsbury's store in that location on the town is one which is debatable, as plans are well under way for the development of an Aldi store meters from this site, and what with a Co-op in the town too, does Bingley really need three supermarkets? And with the previously scrapped plans to build a Sainsbury's over the site of the famous Bradford & Bingley site, should we really allow the company that has already broken promises to the town rid us of our iconic Pizza Hut restaurant?

Therefore, I urge you to sign this petition to show your support for the Bingley Pizza Hut branch, and to make company management realise the importance of the store to not only its many customers and employees, but to the social structure of Bingley itself.
