Name: Anonymous on Oct 20, 2009Comments: Dear Governor Patterson: I just wanted to attach a personal note to the petition above. I can say most certainly that I would not be able to afford my education where it not for the robust SUNY system in New York State. Education is an essential investment to building a strong, positive, progressive future for our state, nation and world. Furthermore, a cut today is immeasurably compounded by future losses. I ask that you reflect on the priorities of New York State in these difficult times and recognize that education helps build the leaders and thinkers that we will rely on to make this state and nation work in the future. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.Flag

Name: Patrick Raney on Oct 20, 2009Comments: SUNY-ESF is what brought me to the state, to buy a house in Syracuse, to pay taxes and to buy things form the local economy. This is the case for numerous graduate students throughout the SUNY system. The SUNY university system is so appealing due to its great resources. I would hate to see a decline in the level of these great programs due to funding cuts which will likely result in many fewer students and fewer tax payers. Thank you for your time, Patrick Raney PhD student Conservation Biology State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry Syracuse, NYFlag

Name: Kyle Bell on Oct 20, 2009Comments: The expertise of SUNY ESF is why I applied, the funding provided for graduate students is why I chose to return to New York to study instead of moving elsewhere. Such funding attracts exceptional, highly educated candidates and encourages them to consider New York as a place to live and work.Flag

In cutting the budget and raising the cost of tuition, it effectively denies lower income families the chance to create better lives for themselves and their children.Flag
