Comments: During my time at Stewarton Academy the school was renowned for it's fantastic music department. I started playing the saxophone in primary 7 and continued throughout high school, studying standard grade, higher and advanced higher music. Being part of the school band was a massive part of my time at school, allowing me to travel to Italy as well as many cities throughout the UK to compete in various competitions - these experiences have stayed with me and many others I know. Taking away these opportunities from children would be a terrible shame . I really do hope that this proposal is considered and another solution is offered.

Comments: As a former pupil of Cumnock Academy, i was heavily involved in the Music Department and East Ayrshire Concert Band was always something i looked forward to for months. Many of the targets and successes we experience as musicians would not be possible without the wonderful tuition we receive!

Comments: The teaching of musical instruments in schools provides every child with the opportunity to play a musical instrument. If this service is withdrawn, only those with adequate financed can afford to persue a musical education. The benefits of playing musical instruments do much to improve a child's social development. Many children are not academic. However, the opportunity to express oneself through music to their best ability is being denied by reducing or withdrawing the excellent talent of band leadership and role models given by Stewarton Academy's wind band staff. These individuals have contributed over many years to the education of Stewarton's children. The Scottish government have the mental health of its people very high on their agenda. Clearly the number of pupils cannot be quantified whose mental health has been improved through the support, feeling of self worth and achievement that being a band member has given them. nonetheless, councillors should consider the detrimental effects of removing such an opportunity for its children. I feel that musical services are seen as an easy target. Perhaps other areas of the council should be looked at for efficiency and results. Stewarton Academy's Junior band have just produced a gold plus award at a national band festival. If services are to be quantified, surely this shows that these teachers have produced magnificent results, thanks to their paid time. However, the teachers also provide a lot of voluntary time, including playing at the watchnight service in the town.

Comments: I am in the Junior Band and we have recently been awarded a Gold Plus award. I've put a lot of time, effort and my mum puts loads of money in to the band and my tuition. If EAC takes it's money away, all of this work will be for nothing.

Comments: This particular cut proposal will rip the heart out of Stewarton academy . The music education is exceptional at the school and should be used as an example of excellence across not only east ayrshire but the whole country . Cutting it would be irresponsible .

Comments: We should be encouraging school pupils to take an interest in music, arts and sport at school. These types of subject are always hit when it comes to budget cutting. Then we complain when kid today don't have any culture or interests.

Comments: Not impressed. Very impressed by the dedication of the pupil and their teachers. Very impressed by the enthusiasm and teamwork the band brings to schooling. Council should hang their heads in shame plus our elected MP's and Councilors that may support this.
