Name: Katie Duncan on Nov 28, 2012Comments: I have been involved with the Stewarton bands for around 8 years now and they have had a major positive influence on my school career. I understand that these cuts need to be made but I would urge the council not to take the fantastic musical opportunities away from the talented young musicians in East Ayrshire.Flag

Name: Stewart Steele on Nov 28, 2012Comments: I fully agree with the petition discription above. Both of my younger sisters have been involved as students in Stewarton Academy's school band and have been blessed by the music tutition that has been offered. It has brought them not only the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, but has given them many challenges in their school careers which has encouraged them to learn many additional skills.Flag

Comments: This represents a 50% cut in the budget. It would mean the end of the fantastic band system which has thrived in the Stewarton area for over 20 years.Flag -

Name: Anonymous on Nov 28, 2012Comments: I am commenting as a parent of 2 children receiving excellent music tuition, I agree with this petition and the above statement. Budget cuts such as this (half of the total budget) are far too severe and in this case would destroy the fantastic talent of young musicians in the area. I suggest that the council and cabinet meeting in December consider the schools and communities involved and look at the many awards that music and bands have brought to the area in recent years. Such hard work and dedication shown by music students, staff and family supporters should be greatly valued and treasured. It is unbelievable that this has been proposed.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 28, 2012Comments: Each of the music staff are too valuable to lose. Without them there would be no progression in the talent of pupils concerned. Pupils would also be limited to what instruments they could be taught in their academic music classes and therefore the musical talent that thrives in East Ayrshire would be forgotten. Pupils rarely get a chance to express their creative and musical sides and by making cuts in the music instruction you will be taking several amazing opportunities away from them. Terrible proposal.Flag

Name: Nicola McNaught on Nov 29, 2012Comments: The Stewarton Learning Community bands are full of talented, hard-working young people and key to their successes are the talents and efforts of the EAC instrumental music teaching staff managed by Paul Wood and in Stewarton, lead by Alan Friel. It has taken over 20 years to set up this wonderful band system, which could all be lost if the cuts are implemented as proposed. This loss would be devastating to Stewarton Academy and the wider community. Many former pupils go on to participate in adult and community bands. You only have to read the above petition to see what talented and confident adults they have become.Flag

Name: David McAllister on Nov 29, 2012Comments: I benefitted greatly from musical instruction and activities at Stewarton - it greatly enriched my life then and now. The music department succeeded in enthusing pupils from a wide range of backgrounds and academic abilities. It's not just about musicianship (although for me that was important - i still play music semi-professionally), it was about confidence, achievement, teamworking and culture. It's difficult to put a financial value to the many benefits. I would hate to think today's pupils will be denied this.Flag
