The Department of Education has proposed to break up our West 68th Street community by:

1. Removing THE ENTIRETY OF WEST 68TH STREET between CPW and Amsterdam from the PS 199 school district, one of the best K-5 schools in the city and our community school. It's because of our buildings, which have funded and contributed to PS 199 for decades, that it is as successful as it is today. Removing our street in its entirety from our community school in order to accommodate the larger newer buildings on Riverside Boulevard must be stopped.

2. West 68th Street is not only proposed to be removed from PS 199, but in the current Department of Education draft proposal West 68th Street will be broken up into three zones, with a portion of our street proposed to be zoned to PS 191, located on 61st Street and Amsterdam, one of the lowest enrollment and lowest ranking schools in New York City and labeled as "persistently dangerous" by the State Education Department. Splitting our street into three different zones could permanently damage our sense of unity!

3. There are other ways to address the overcrowding of PS199, without removing our community from our community school. We want to be heard!

Please take a minute to support our community and sign this petition against a rezoning of West 68th Street as it will materially and negatively impact our community and our children for years to come.

Further, please submit additional comments to the Community Education Council District 3 who will vote on the final proposal on November 19th. They are reading all of the submissions, so please take another minute after signing this petition to submit your comments at the following website: http://www.cec3.org/site_view_survey.aspx?id=64e29...

AND finally, the Department of Education and the Community Education Council has set the following dates and locations for public forums to voice your concerns in person. We know this is not convenient for everyone to attend, but the more people we have speaking out against this the better chance we have in successfully defeating this:

Monday October 26, 2015 (6:30pm - 8:30pm): CEC3 Zoning Committee Meeting located at 154 West 93rd Street

Wednesday October 28, 2015 (5:30pm - 7:00pm): Town Hall Meeting with Chancellor Carmen Farina located at 210 West 61st Street

Monday November 2, 2015 (6:30pm - 8:30pm): CEC3 Zoning Committee Meeting located at 154 West 93rd Street

Monday November 16, 2015 (6:30pm - 8:30pm): CEC3 Zoning Committee Meeting located at 154 West 93rd Street

Wednesday November 19, 2015 (6:30pm - 8:30pm): CEC3 General Meeting located at 154 West 93rd Street - THIS IS THE FINAL VOTE

THE COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU! WE HAVE A SMALL VOICE COMPARED TO MORE POPULOUS STREETS AND WE MUST HAVE OUR VOICE HEARD! WE DESERVE TO STAY IN PS 199.

Thank you for your time and support.
