Osteopathic Medicine is under attack!
As you may know, in February of this year, representatives of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) met in Puerto Rico, out of the public eye and with little input or analysis, agreed to a single accreditation system for graduate medical education (GME) programs in the U.S.
Many fear this merger will cause irreparable harm and will ultimately destroy the osteopathic medical profession. This past July, the AOA voted down the merger but the issue gained support again for some reason. Now we must unify as one in opposing unification of our accreditation process to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

I checked the count this morning and saw one hundred signatures staring back at me. I honestly thought I was the only person worried about this, but you all have proven me wrong. This is entirely your doing.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stepped up to defend osteopathic medicine. We are creeping toward our first hundred signatures and it is all thanks to your dedication to our profession. Please keep pointing people toward this page so we can show those in charge that we are not going anywhere.

Who is even making these decisions in Puerto Rico? Not anyone representing the actual doctors on the ground. Save our schools.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Why are they trying to kill OMM? It makes zero sense to merge with ACGME if it means losing our training methods.
Been practicing for 30 years and this merger is a bad idea. We have a distinct philosophy that will get watered down completely.
My grandfather was a DO and he taught me the difference. We can't just let the MDs absorb everything. Keep our identity separate please.
We need to stay independent or we are basically just MDs with a different degree tag. Stop the merger now.

Osteopathic physicians must maintain the "Osteopathic Profession" as no other group will maintain our profession. Did you ever try to have an allopathic physician treat your back with an "Osteopathic Manipulation"?
