After 38 years of loyal business with Helgren's Oceanside Sportfishing, the City of Oceanside has decided to attempt negotiations with the Oceanside Sea Center.

From the information provided to the public, the Oceanside Sea Center is made up the Sea Star Charters, and Chubasco Sportfishing, both of which offer privately chartered sportfishing business, with a capacity of approximately 1/3 the passenger carrying ability of Helgrens. The third party is the Pfleger Institute for Environmental research, a Non-profit organization which perform research for Fish and Wildlife as well as the Center for the Advancement of Population Assessment Methodology. P.I.E.R. is an organization that works towards the sustainable fishing movement. The Oceanside Sea Center if offering their 2nd attempt at an aquarium in the Oceanside Harbor, the first attempt still has an empty unused building in the harbor as evidence of that failure, and to replace Helgren's with Eco-Tours, Ocean Classrooms, and privately chartered sportfishing trips.

Helgren's has provided family affordable, open party, daily sportfishing trips, as well as long range sportfishing trips, Sea Life Adventure & Whale Watch trips both open party and for Schools throughout San Diego and Riverside counties, Dignified Burial at Seas, as well as private charters. Helgren's works with multiple military organizations, local charity organizations, various kids groups, and societies.
