Comments: They are doing the best they can to save the lives of the animals that need help the most. By giving them more time, you'll be helping save more lives. Would you close down an orphanage suddenly after 12 years, causing hundreds of children to be thrown into the streets / leaving them to die? Why would you do this to defenceless animals?Flag -

Name: Anonymous on Jan 14, 2013Comments: Kitty and Puppy Haven, is the only rescue centre that I have been to where the premises is meticulous and clean, all the animals are clean, and it doesn't smell like many other animal shelters. The animals are also shown a lot of love, where as many similar places just pack the animals in where they can because they do not have the passion or time to do the same. They take pride in their space and their jobs. We should be commending and supporting institutions like this, not punish them.Flag

They do such amazing work in the community and it would be such a disaster if they were closed down. Please consider the animals who would have to be killed, it is very sad, please don't shut them down.Flag

Name: Kasia Jabrzemski on Jan 14, 2013Comments: Dear Members of the Mayoral Committee The Alexandra Community and their beloved pets URGENTLY need your help. The forced closure of Kitty and Puppy Haven, after 12 years, in Alexander could see up to 200 cats and dogs being euthanized in the next 7 weeks. Acting as a rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing centre for injured, neglected, traumatised and mistreated cats and dogs, Kitty and Puppy Haven has helped 3000 animals annually. It is a non-profit organisation operating from a private residential area in Alexander. After 6 years of applications regarding the re-zoning on their property, they were recently provided with permission to run the community clinic. However, recently the court advised that the agreement was null and void due to technicalities. After the final court hearing today, Kitty and Puppy Haven has been ordered to remove all dogs and puppies from the property by 31 January 2013. In addition all cats and kittens have to be removed off the property by 15 February 2013, or have all the animals euthanized, and the current premises have to be closed on that date as well. "It is that time of the year when we look to celebrate with our families and family pets. To know that if we do not find alternative arrangements in the next two weeks, we will have to put down all these innocent animals is heart-breaking. I can only ask that all pet-loving South Africans come through to the centre to consider taking on a new pet,” says owner Samantha Berger. The impact of this ruling affects far more than just the animals at the sanctuary. All Alex residents who make use of the community clinic will no longer have access to the services of the Kitty and Puppy Haven vet. Over the past 12 years approximately 11000 animals have been helped by Kitty and Puppy Haven with numbers growing steadily every year. We are appealing to the City of Johannesburg to grant Kitty and Puppy Haven an extension . Their lawyers are desperately trying to get them an extension on the deadline or ask the Council to assist them with a property; however the City of Joburg staff are not responding to their letters and messages. These are the people at the City Council who are meant to be assisting Kitty and Puppy Haven: Elsie Naidoo - Senior Legal Advisor City of Johannesburg Direct Line: +27 11 407 7371 OR Mbulelo Ruda - Director Legal and compliance Tel: 011 403 7373 Email: ruda.mbulelo@joburg.org.za OR Gina Zanti Tel: 011 407 6878Flag
