Dear all,
In my local area a football clubhave submitted plans tobuild houses on an established First World War memorial. The memorial on Ingleborough Road on the Wirral is dedicated to those who lost their lives fighting for our country. The heroes this particular memorial site is dedicated to attended the Birkenhead Institute School which is the same school that the famous war poet Wilfred Owen attended. There are alot of people who support me in opposing this redevelopment, mainly former pupils of the Birkenhead Institute so far but we need to make more people aware of what is happening as it isn't really public knowledge. Please support us and help keep the memory of these special men alive. All your support matters a great deal. We feel very passionately about this so help us make a stand. Power is in numbers. We have a Facebook site called Save Ingleborough Road Fields so join us. If you do notagree withhouses being built on the site by Tranmere Rovers FC then sign the petition.

I grew up on the Tranmere Hall Estate and my parents still live there. It would be such a shame for the field to go. There should be some green land left alone. It is disrespectful to the men who lost their lives in the first world war and their families. Please stop thus from happening. This field should be used for children to play sports on which would give more back to the community than houses nobody wants.
This cannot happen. This field was an integral part not only to mine but to all my friends and family growing up in Higher Tranmere! I'm sure the people who are reading this will agree with me that having houses in place of this field not only disrespects the memory of the brave soldiers who lost their lives nearly 100 years ago, but would absolutely serve no purpose other than to over populate the area and cause even more traffic congestion, pollution and more parking issues!
please keep this field as a memorial to the brave boys who gave their lives, so that future children will know of their sacrifice and enjoy the field as it was meant to be for sport not houses.
This is an established war memorial to brave men who sacrificed everything for their country.DO NOT DISHONOR THEM!!
Disgraceful that they would even think of building on this land. My grandfather went to BI and played on those fields. Keep the houses away and leave it for the kids to enjoy like we did.
This field was dedicated to the students from the Birkenhead Institute School who fought to protect their country during WWI. Eighty-eight poplar trees were planted, one in memory of each of the 88 who died in this endeavor; at least 6 are expected to be felled as part of the planned development. One of these 88 was the poet Wilfred Owens, killed in action on 4 November 1918 during the crossing of the Sambre–Oise Canal. Read his poem Dulce et Decorum Est about the kind of death that these men faced for the safety, comfort, freedom & future of those back home and then tell me which 6 of these heroes deserve to have their trees and remembrance of their service cut down! Covenants put in place to assure that this field served to perpetuate the memory of these brave me should remain in place and be honored. Green space is valuable to a neighborhood and will enrich the health and happiness of those who use the field. Even more importantly, it will teach them the lessons of loyalty, love of country and dedication to one's word that these men exemplified and also the lesson of keeping one's word to "never forget".

As a former resident of the area with fond memories of playing in this field as a child, I was horrified to hear about the sale of this urban green space to housing developers by Tranmere Rovers. The lack of public consultation, dismissal of residents’ concerns and the use of the National Planning Policy Framework to push through the plans, despite a public outcry, only serve to underscore the club’s continuing disrespect for the local community. In this centenary year, I urge the planning officers to reconsider their decision and preserve this living memorial to the 88 BI boys that died serving their country during the First World War.
