The local authority confirmed today that the funding for PC Surridge will be maintained. We have scheduled a follow-up meeting with the council to ensure this commitment is codified in the upcoming budget. Thank you for your role in keeping this officer in our community.

Final supporters
Due to local funding cuts Hayling is about to lose another essential service –namely our dedicated local Police Officer; PC Debbie Surridge.
Hayling
has experienced cut after cut to local services. Many years ago we had a fully
functioning Police Station with a local force. Now we have no Police Station
and a critically reduced number of Police Officers assigned to serve our growing population.
We
ask our local MP (Alan Mak), Havant Borough Councillors and Hampshire County
Councillors to respond to the needs of our Island and
commit to fighting to maintain our Island's Police Officer numbers.

We are approaching the 500 signature threshold required to compel a formal response from Alan Mak. I am finalizing the draft of our letter to the borough council and need to hit this milestone before delivering it to his office.

We are a rural community on Hayling Island and we have opportunist burglaries. We need a local Police presence. I am a retired Havant Police Officer and I am very supportive of Debbie Surridge’s work on Hayling and her local knowledge which is so important.
PC Debbie Surridge is an amazing role model to this Island. The children respect her, she is has worked so hard with them. Debbie has done so much for our community. We don’t want to lose her due to cuts. Our Island is constantly expanding and we are in need of our positive role model.
Debbie has done so much for the local community in her role - the rock wall project at the school for instance and her active involvement within the community itself for starters. We need her to stay - she is part of us and one of us. !!
Resident of Hayling Island - A regular police presence is required on the island. By having a dedicated officer for Hayling Island, who engages with the community and understands community issues, they can work and investigate issues in a more effective manner.
There should be at least 3 officers so that 24 hour coverage is given, i.e. on paper. Annual Leave, Training etc., will eat into that. Having one officer who is subject to having leave, training commitments etc., means that Hayling has no cover at all in her absence.
Debbie is an amazing asbrathion to the island and we need here
With crime increasing on the island it's not the best time to be cutting the police presence

Having spent over 20 years on Hayling, and my wife over 60 years. We both feel threatened by criminals in our local area and have witnessed several in incidents . We are now very reluctant to venture out at night, because any police help is so far away . We need local support .
