Save Habeas Corpus
Dear (My Senator or Congressperson) and/or the ACLU and Cato Institute: With the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act Sections 1031-34, we have effectively lost Habeas Corpus in America. Anybody a president does not like, he can tell the Pentagon the person is a friend to the terrorists and ask the military to detain that person indefinitely and even send the person to a prison in the Jordanian or Saudi desert, with no lawyer ever knowing it happened. This travesty was a bipartisan horror--Obama signed it, the Republican House and Democratic Senate both passed it. We have seen this happen before--the Roman Republic; Weimar Germany--an economic crisis combines with an assault on the republic and the freedoms that make a country a republic are eroded then gone. Don't let us lose it. Take the case to the Supreme Court, as a bipartisan lawsuit. Urge the Court to declare that part of that Act Unconstitutional and null and void. God Save America, from ourselves.
