Comments: Living this close to such rich history and not taking advantage of the learning experience or places like Plimouth Plantation is completely senseless. I have lived in Massachusetts for 23 years. My first experience with Plimouth Plantation was chaperoning the field trip last year. I thought it was such a unique and fun learning experience. I am taking my Girl Scout troop back this year for an overnight. What a shame it would be for our kids to miss out on this opportunity.

Comments: I still remember many of the field trips I went on in elementary school some 40+ years later. Not only do these types of field trips give the children something to look forward to and a reason to be excited about school, but they also facilitate learning by making the academic experience real rather than just theoretical. Our teachers do a wonderful job, but to not enhance classroom learning by taking advantage of what's available in our region is a huge missed opportunity. Please reconsider.

Comments: I understand the District's financial constraints, but I can't believe you think that two field trips per year (about 1% of the scheduled class days) would be detrimental to the school's educational objectives. If missed class time is so much of a concern, why not eliminate the "curriculum half days"?

Comments: This was a fabulous field trip when I took both my daughters - there's nothing like being THERE to get a real feel for colonial America. Kids learn best this way - any other way, it's sort of a waste of time IMO. Meghan Volpe

Comments: We are so fortunate to live in Massachusetts and have a field-trip opportunity like this in our back yard. It would be a shame to not let the children experience it first hand. Field trips like this create life-long memories.

Comments: I have chaperoned this trip with both my children. It was a wonderful educational experience, I grew up in the midwest, the children should be able to take advantage of all the history they have here

Comments: I chaperoned this field trip with each of my children. All of the kids were inspired being at the plantation to ask great questions of both the Pilgrims and Indians. It was definitely an invaluable experience that cannot be matched by bringing role players into the school.

Comments: This is a trade off of diversity and hands on learning and MCAS scores. I am willing to score lower on the MCAS to provide creativity and diversity of experience to our children.

Comments: All 3 of my children and I (as a chaperone) participated in this field trip. It was an incredible learning experience for them (and me). It fits perfectly into their curriculum and there were many projects that were based on their observations from that day. Plimoth Plantation is close enough for a one day school trip, yet far enough away that I doubt our family would ever had thought to visit. We are more likely to go to the Museum of Science or Aquarium so had this trip been cancelled for my kids, it would have been a missed opportunity.

Comments: I am a third-grade teacher in another school district. My third-graders go to Plimoth every year. This trip is a very valuable experience, especially for students with limited background knowledge and visual learners. I cannot even believe that this petition has to happen.

Comments: It would have been prudent for the administration to seek parent input on this trip prior to deciding to discontinue a long-standing class trip for the Florence Roche 3rd grade. I have six children who have gone on this trip and each have loved it and truly benefited from the experience. I sincerely hope that the trip gets reinstated for my youngest two.
