Name: Beverly Harris on Oct 24, 2012Comments: Living this close to such rich history and not taking advantage of the learning experience or places like Plimouth Plantation is completely senseless. I have lived in Massachusetts for 23 years. My first experience with Plimouth Plantation was chaperoning the field trip last year. I thought it was such a unique and fun learning experience. I am taking my Girl Scout troop back this year for an overnight. What a shame it would be for our kids to miss out on this opportunity.Flag

Name: Clare Burhoe on Oct 24, 2012Comments: I still remember many of the field trips I went on in elementary school some 40+ years later. Not only do these types of field trips give the children something to look forward to and a reason to be excited about school, but they also facilitate learning by making the academic experience real rather than just theoretical. Our teachers do a wonderful job, but to not enhance classroom learning by taking advantage of what's available in our region is a huge missed opportunity. Please reconsider.Flag

Name: Neil Slavin on Oct 24, 2012Comments: I understand the District's financial constraints, but I can't believe you think that two field trips per year (about 1% of the scheduled class days) would be detrimental to the school's educational objectives. If missed class time is so much of a concern, why not eliminate the "curriculum half days"?Flag

All of the kids were inspired being at the plantation to ask great questions of both the Pilgrims and Indians. It was definitely an invaluable experience that cannot be matched by bringing role players into the school.Flag

Name: Sheila Boyce on Oct 25, 2012Comments: All 3 of my children and I (as a chaperone) participated in this field trip. It was an incredible learning experience for them (and me). It fits perfectly into their curriculum and there were many projects that were based on their observations from that day. Plimoth Plantation is close enough for a one day school trip, yet far enough away that I doubt our family would ever had thought to visit. We are more likely to go to the Museum of Science or Aquarium so had this trip been cancelled for my kids, it would have been a missed opportunity.Flag

This trip is a very valuable experience, especially for students with limited background knowledge and visual learners. I cannot even believe that this petition has to happen.Flag

I have six children who have gone on this trip and each have loved it and truly benefited from the experience. I sincerely hope that the trip gets reinstated for my youngest two.Flag
