Name: Tom Gelletlie on Dec 5, 2012Comments: Fitzwilliam Square is an integral part of Wicklow's Victorian heritage and it would be a crime to alter it. A comprehensive study of Wicklow's townscape should be undertaken by an independent firm of architects and landscape architects before any change to this area is contemplated.Flag

Name: James Long on Dec 6, 2012Comments: No thanks, I think the square is perfect in historical time/location and should be preserved as it is. I do not like the changes to market sq. which are in my opinion 'tacky' at best.Flag

Name: Anne Marie Mitchell on Dec 6, 2012Comments: I saw the plans for Fitzwilliam Square, and making the road a one way system will be an inconvenience, but it is needed, specially on the crossroads. However, as to moving the monument, removing the trees, rails and wall, and making it look like the Market Square, look how that turned out. Don't get me wrong the Market Square looks well, but the old world charm is gone and you have a modern contemporary area that ended up with more problems, cobble stones you can pick up, the white small pillars that more cars have hit, and when coming down from the convent you have a blind side on your left as the monument is blocking your view of on coming traffic. Listen to the people, leave Fitzwilliam's Square alone, Halpin Momorial as been there for 115 years.Flag

It forms part of a group of structures in Wicklow town, including the Bridge Inn, the Church of Ireland graveyard, and the hostel, with a connection to Halpin. Designed by the County Surveyor, Carter Draper, carved by Robinson & Sons of Belfast, it is a notable landmark in the town.'Flag
