Name: Orla Keogh on Nov 19, 2012Comments: This is a disgrace that the council would attempt to do this to Fitzwilliam Square. Although i am not from the town i have lived here for over 10 years. One of the attractions to Wicklow Town was the fact that it was untouched by modern architecture and it had an very old world look and atmosphere. The town is very visibly steeped in history and many of the tourist visit because of it reputation for quaintness and historical value. If these plans go ahead there is a very strong chance that the tourist will no longer have any desire to visit Wicklow as it will not stand out against other towns. We are fortunate that Wicklow has not been destroyed by shopping centres and and granite faced shopping malls. I am proud of this quaint little town and feel it should remain as it is. These changes are not going to benefit anyone. It will not create new employment from what I cna see, it will cause traffic congesation and it will become a drinking den and rubbish tip that we can do without. Market square should be our reminder of what will happen if we allow this.Flag

Apart from altering the historical aspects of this area, you will be introducing an unmanageable traffic bottle neck and create another disaster like the Market Square.Flag

See the many bollards in various stages of collapse and how the traffic flow is constricted. Look at the base of the monument - out of character with the rest of this fine memorial.Flag

Name: Ida Lane on Nov 27, 2012Comments: I wish to see heritage of our town maintained ,not destroyed. I wish to see our council find ways to develop the amazing potential our town has as a fishing port in a most wonderful scenic location with a potentially huge cachment area from Dublin. Developing the quays, restaurants, craft shops,theatre....not destruct and flatten anything we have that is attractive in the town.Flag

Name: Pat Kavanagh on Nov 28, 2012Comments: This Victorian square is a focal point in the centre of an Architectural Conservation Area and is in keeping with an town full of old character. It makes no sense whatsoever to destroy this square with a bland modern design which has become commonplace throughout the country. Wicklow should preserve its unique character for posterity.Flag
