Name: Violet Cairns on Feb 15, 2013Comments: Libraries are a vital resource for all age groups - they foster individual reading and imagination, and provide space for homework clubs, book groups - a real community space. Divert money from PR and social activities e.g. Alicia KeysFlag

Name: Colin Tyrie on Feb 15, 2013Comments: My young daughters are regular users of the library and I really value this resources as a mechanism for children to value books. Manchester has some of the worst rates of literacy in the UK, to close a library just seems beyond belief.Flag

Facing our current ecomonic situation where resources are limited, we need this vital Service to help our community build a future, and see us through economic recovery.Flag

Name: Stephen Pennells on Feb 24, 2013Comments: Although I live in Rusholme/Longsight and don't regularly use Fallowfield Library it played a role in developing our children's love of books and literacy when we lived on the Wilbraham Estate. I know as a former teacher in St. Philip's and Webster Primaries and Ducie and Chorlton High Schools that good library facilities and homework clubs/supplementary education centres are keys to raising education and social inclusion, especially amongst those who don't have the wealth of others at home. Whilst I am glad that renovation is being done to the Central Library I cannot accept the axing of branch libraries such as is proposed, especially when money is found for vanity projects. If the council doesn't listen to the voices of protest social exclusion will develop, alienation will grow and ALL councillors who acquiesce to closures, or whose colleagues vote for cuts to libraries should expect to not be reelected. Blaming central government will be no defence.Flag

Name: Violet Cairns on Mar 4, 2013Comments: This library recently won a customer service award and is well used by local residents in Fallowfield and Rusholme. Why is a well used library with very active links with the 3 neighbouring primary schools being closed? This area desperately needs its library where homework clubs, reading group and senior citizens groups meet regularly. How will MCC monitor that the library needs of these residents are being met if their library is closed?Flag
