The municipality reversed their decision and our crossing guard is staying. I am completely stunned by this result and I know it only happened because you all refused to be quiet about our children's safety. Thank you for looking out for our community when it felt like no one else …

Effective June 30, 2016 the Municipality of Chatham-Kent has announced it will be eliminating all crossing guards throughout the municipality. The town of Dresden has a full-time crossing guard who is committed to providing a safe crossing for students on a daily basis. Chatham-Kent Children’s Charter of Rights states, “every child has the right to be safe and respected at all times and in all places, at home, school, on the internet and in public.” North Street which cuts through the heart of the community is the only road in Dresden which crosses the Sydenham River. Therefore, this roadway has heavy traffic volume including all commercial vehicles and agricultural equipment. We, the undersigned, call on the Municipality to reinstate our crossing guard's position, for the safety of our roadway, our drivers and most importantly - our children.

I am truly overwhelmed to see that 250 of you have added your names to this cause. I honestly never imagined this many people would care about keeping our children safe on North Street. This movement belongs entirely to you and your commitment to our community.

As an elementary teacher today and a student growing up at D.A.C.S in my past- D.A.C.S needs that crossing guard! With high school drivers, tomato wagons, farm equipment, etc. it's too dangerous.

Cancelling a part time essential service such as this which regards the safety of grade school children should not even be a consideration on a busy road such as 21 hwy. obviously the decision of someone whose children don't cross a busy road while walking to school.

The highway in front of the school is very very busy all the time with tractors, large trucks and lots of traffic... this is a major highway.....Crossing guard is needed at the DACS to keep the students and their parents SAFE...

This is a VERY busy crossing in the morning and at dismissal. Even with a crossing guard there are close calls on a very regular basis. It is imperative that a crossing guard remain at this location for the safety of the children.

I believe we are asking for trouble letting little ones find their own was across the street. when did our children become non-important? If there was an accident or a fatality someone may decide to put a crossing guard back on. Why risk any children??

This is vitally important to the safety of the children and parents hundreds of people attend this school a day, many needing the crosswalk as there is minimal parking on the same side of the street as the school

I grew up in Dresden with a crossing guard. I believe that having a crossing guard saves lives of children.

My children are long grown up and do not require this service. I am signing this petition for their children, whenever they may come.
