We the undersigned object to the following development within the Douglas Promenade Conservation Area affecting the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway:
1. The latest (DECEMBER 16) proposals to truncate the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway ripping up the tracks from the Sea Terminal to a position just South of the Broadway.
2. The proposal change use of the stables sell them off.
3. The proposal to carry out works at the Strathallan Car shed to install new stables.

If the horse tramway is altered from its current configuration I will never visit the Isle of Man again! Remember, this is the last promenade horse tramway in the world. People visit because of the islands unique appeal of which this forms a major part.
An absolute disgrace, this is a priceless asset for the Isle of Man, a great tourist attraction. The unique Horse Tramway should be a World Heritage Site, not be put at serious risk of being lost for future generations. I have visited it 14 times now.
I have grown up with the trams the same as my parents and grandparents did, I would like to think this would be the case for my grandchildren and great grandchildren, it's one of the few things left for us true manxies to leave from our heritage.
Once it's gone it's gone, it's essential to keep the tramway as it is. Cut short the tramway and it becomes a novelty instead of serving a purpose. Douglas promenade is one of the best in the British Isles and the horse tramway is the jewel in the crown.
Horse Trams must run entire length of Promenade from Strathallan to the Sea Terminal, and double track in centre of road. It's got to be cheaper in the long run to replace rails now instead of possibly some time in future which may never happen.
The Douglas works and especially the absence of horse trams actively persuaded me to cancel a planned trip to the island. The current truncated service is a very poor substitute.
We were there in April, and the HORSE TRAMS, we rode many times, and it was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip, and this is history, and should be left, we loved the romance of the ride, and love the slow, clicketey clack of the horse hooves and seeing all the sights, slowly, and enjoying morning and eveinng rides, take away the Horse Tramway, and you have have taken away the HEART of what the Isle of about, slow and lovely living, don't let progress deny the love of the past, and present, this is what makes the Isle so SPECIAL, the Horse Trams. I cannot believe that the Manx Government would be so short-sighted as so kill the Horse Tramway by stealth. My mother was born in Peel, and I have travelled on the horse tram every year since 1946 . What next? Rip up the remaining Steam Railway?
