A quote from the home page of the web site dndtools.eu :

"Wizards of the Coast has sent us a Cease and Desist order. As a non-profit all volunteer we have neither the means nor the know-how to properly fight this litigation. As it stands we are in the process of shutting down the site."

First and foremost I would like to say that as the author of this petition, I in no way have any legal or financial stake to be gained here. I do not know anyone who has any involvement in the operation of this site. I am an avid user and herald of this site among everyone I know who plays the Dungeons & Dragons table top role playing game.

The web site dudtools.eu is a site dedicated to compiling the vast source material used in the Dungeons & Dragons table top role playing game. They have compiled a majority of the information in regards to character classes, feats and spells just to name some of the tabs anyone can look at free of charge. The information gathered here comes from materials published by Wizards of the Coast when they supported their versions 3.0 and 3.5 rules system platforms. Wizards of the Coast currently only supports their version 5.0 rules system platform. Rule books, gaming scenarios, and player information texts for the 3.0 and 3.5 platforms are currently either no longer in print or in very limited run printing. The programmers who run this information sharing web site do so on their own time for nothing more than the enjoyment of this rules system and love of the game. Please help keep this site up, running and growing. Thank You.

I don't mind them shutting down a service that distributes for free what is supposed to be paid for, but they do not provide an equivalent service. Give me the option to buy from them an identical tool which only contains data from sourcebooks I've bought and I'll buy that instead.

This website INCREASED my usage of the books by referring me to new books that I had to get because I prefer the books over online sources. This site was awesome, sorted everything so I didn't get lost reading through all the books

DnDTools is an invaluable player resource that doesn't infringe on your creative rights, but instead collates them into a single useful collection, not unlike an online glossary. Its material is outdated by at least two versions of DnD!

There is no reason for this to be taken down, WotC have lost nothing and likely gained a great deal of player interest from having this resource available. A diehard fan doing what the owners themselves could not be bothered to ever do despite the constant need.

Shutting down dndtools makes no financial sense. This isn't going to make people turn to 5e. They were going to dndtools for 3.5 and 3.0, and removing a searchable databse of an older version of your product doesn't magically make people buy your new, non-searchable one.

As someone who invested several hundred £'s into 3.5, and has continued to play it even through 4E and now 5E dndtools was a godsend, saving me from carting half a ton of books to-and-fro from my GM's house every game session.
